Sunday Summary #92
Starting the Tenn-Tom
Hi ,
Welcome to Scho & Jo’s 92nd Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was written aboard PIVOT who is cruising south on the Tennessee Tombigbee (aka the Tenn-Tom) Waterway in Mississippi.
Last Week.
After leaving Guntersville, we continued to make our way downriver to Florence, Alabama where we spent two nights. We celebrated Jen’s birthday with a morning run followed by some local donuts. Later that afternoon, we enjoyed drinks and appetizers with some fellow loopers and then went out for a nice birthday meal.
Leaving the Tennessee River was bittersweet. We had spent the last month on this river and it was such a pleasure to take our time cruising through the mountains, exploring Chattanooga, and visiting the small towns along the way. We thoroughly enjoyed this off-shot from the Great Loop route! After saying goodbye to the Tennessee River, we made a left and started down the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway making our first stop an anchorage at Goat Island. Yes, there are (at least) 5 goats that live on the island, but thankfully Ollie didn’t see the goats until she was back on our dinghy.
As we’ve been cruising south on the Tenn-Tom, we’ve had two buddy boats; New Bearings (42 Nordic Tug) and Salty Lady (42 Kadey-Krogen). We first met the crew on New Bearings in Chesapeake City, MD back in early June and have joined the two boats on this first stretch of the Tenn-Tom. It’s been an exciting few days filled with running aground (not us) and a packed full day with 6 locks. It’s been anything but boring!
This Week.
The Great Loop is an amazing adventure and sometimes we feel like we’re in a little bubble as we travel at 6.5 knots in some rural parts of the US and Canada. Unfortunately, life still goes on behind the scenes, so we’ll be taking a few days this week to take care of some doctor appointments. Once we return, we’ll be continuing our way south on the Tenn-Tom.

Updates.
After giving a presentation on Anchoring and Loving It at the America’s Great Loop Cruisers Association (AGLCA) Fall Rendezvous this October, we’ve been invited back to attend the AGLCA Looper-palooza in Fort Meyers, Florida this January! We’re excited to be sharing our Anchoring presentation again. If you’re planning on attending the event, make sure to find us and say hello. We’d love to meet you!
Great Loop Recommendations.
We are looking for recommendations for destinations and spots along our Great Loop to go see, visit, and enjoy. It's been a real challenge for us to keep track and stay organized with the many wonderful recommendations we've received thus far. So we've created a Google Form to help us stay organized. Thank you to everyone sending us recommendations so far! We really appreciate it.
This Sunday Summary is Sponsored by Nebo
We use Nebo every single day on the Loop. Our nebolink automatically records our voyages as well as generates daily and monthly reports (which you’ve seen in our monthly expense reports). We are able to focus more on cruising by letting nebo handle the details of where we stopped, how long our cruise was, and when we left and arrived. In the nebo app, we are constantly communicating with fellow loopers, which was especially important this week while buddy boating!
Purchase your nebolink today for automatic voyage monitoring, captain’s log, and monthly reports. Don’t have a boat yet? Download the nebo app to join their awesome community!
From the Eyes of Ollie.
We have had a busy few days in my home. My parents have been waking me up early and taking me to shore so we can throw rocks (read: do her business). I love looking for rocks. My dad took me on a dinghy ride and there were friends but he didn’t let me say hello to them.
Gratitudes.
We have so much to be grateful for this week. Joining two buddy boats to go through the fog, locks, and testing anchorage depths has added some great laughter and excitement to our day. We celebrated Jen’s birthday. We’re also incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with brands we love. It’s been a whirlwind of a week and we're excited to be making our way south through new territory.
Peace and love,Jenn + Elliot
