Sunday Summary #09

Leaving New Zealand

Hello ,

Welcome to An Urban Journey’s ninth Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was written from the Christchurch airport in New Zealand. Here’s a quick recap of what happened last week and what’s to come:

Last (two) Week(s).

In the past week, we traveled around New Zealand with our family. We learned how to drive on the left side of the road and the right side of a campervan. Here are a few highlights from the last two weeks:

  • Taking a tour of the Waitomo Caves to see the glow worms.

  • Learning about the Maori culture in Rotorua and learning how they use geothermal reserves and mineral pools in their everyday lives.

  • Visiting Tongariro National Park and hiking to a beautiful waterfall.

  • Hiking to Franz Josef Glacier. We loved seeing the glacier as it brought us happy memories of when we got engaged on a glacier in Iceland!

  • Taking a boat tour of Milford Sound and a guided tour on Milford Road to see all the beautiful scenery in the area. We had a great tour guide named Ray who introduced us to the best spot to drink glacier water right from a stream.

  • Freedom camping at 3 free beach campsites that were absolutely stunning!

  • Taking a boat tour near Otago Peninsula where we were able to see a variety of birds including the Royal Albatros. It was amazing to see these incredible birds that have a 3 meter wingspan!

This Week.

We are about to board a flight to Sydney, Australia to celebrate the new year. Here are some of the things we’re looking forward to:

  • Watching the New Years fireworks in the Sydney Harbour

  • Taking a tour of Sydney to get to know the city better

  • Visiting the Sydney Opera House

We’ve received some great recommendations for Melbourne, Darwin, and Cairns in Australia. If you have any recommendations for us in Australia, please send them to [email protected]!

We want to wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a wonderful New Year! During this season, life slows down and we reflect on the many things we are grateful for, including being able to take this trip together. It has been an incredible adventure so far and we thank you for supporting us along this journey. We hope you are having a wonderful holiday season and are able to celebrate it with loved ones. See you in 2020!

Warm wishes,Jenn + Elliot
