Sunday Summary #76

Fear and Joy

Hi ,

Welcome to Scho & Jo’s 76th Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was written aboard PIVOT who is anchored near Picton Island in the Thousands Islands on the USA side.

    Last Week.

We ended our time on the eastern Erie Canal with a not-fun cruise across Lake Oneida. It was a little windy with following seas - this made Pivot very squirrely. Once we made our way across, we filled up on diesel where we had an accident and dropped our diesel tank cap into the water. An hour of looking for the cap in the water, trying various caps from their marine store, and fishing for the cap with a large fishing magnet, lead us to add another boat project to our list: replacing our entire diesel tank fitting, which we’ll be doing in a few days.

Once we made our way to Oswego, NY we had the most perfect day we could have ever asked for to cross Lake Ontario the following day. The water was like glass, unheard of, and we felt so grateful for these calm conditions. We cruised to Cape Vincent, NY which is part of the Thousand Islands at the intersection of the St. Lawerence River and Lake Ontario. We just happened to be there for their Annual French Festival. It was a fun weekend full of small-town charm, fried food, and even some pink lemonade at Tyler’s Lemonade Stand.

This part of the loop has been so much fun! We’ve jumped into the clear, freshwater… three times! It’s very cold for two people who grew up in the warm waters of Florida. The ability to look down in our anchorage and see the bottom or to jump in the water and not need to rinse off the salty water has been a real treat. We understand why so many people rave about this part of the loop! We’ve quickly fallen in love with this area. The best word we have come up with to describe it is magic. It’s pure magic up here and we have the biggest smiles on our faces.

Last week I posted on Instagram about how I have anxiety and my worries revolve around big bodies of water. I don’t always want to be filmed when I’m anxious, but I think it’s important to include it because it’s the ‘real life’ feelings and emotions that go on behind the camera. Tackling the loop this year has been a challenge I wasn’t fully expecting as my anxiety has played a larger role than I would have liked it too. Facing my fears on the Delaware Bay, Atlantic Ocean, Lake Ontario, and looking forward to Lake Michigan. I share this as inspiration for you to take on your fears. Life is meant to be lived. Not in fear or worry, just lived.

"Each of us must confront our own fears, must come face to face with them. How we handle our fears will determine where we go with the rest of our lives. To experience adventure or to be limited by the fear of it."-Judy Blume

    This Week.

We’re spending a few more days exploring the Thousand Islands before we head to Clayton, NY where we’ll be picking up some packages and doing a few boat projects before heading to Canada! 🇨🇦 We are so excited to begin our time in Canada and the Trent Severn waterway as it was the most recommended spot on our Great Loop recommendations list. We’re on no schedule, besides the seasonally driven Great Loop schedule and it feels great!

     Great Loop Recommendations.

We are looking for recommendations for destinations and spots along our Great Loop to go see, visit, and enjoy. It's been a real challenge for us to keep track and stay organized with the many wonderful recommendations we've received thus far. So we've created a Google Form to help us stay organized. Thank you to everyone sending us recommendations so far! We really appreciate it.

     Gratitudes.

We're so grateful for the incredible weather window we had to cross Lake Ontario. It was magical! The water was still and glimmering in the sunshine, making our 6-hour cruise from Oswego to Cape Vincent enjoyable, relaxing, and pleasurable. We are 'pleasure cruisers' as they say, but sometimes conditions aren't always the most pleasurable. This region is so magical, it might just go down as one of my favorite summers, ever.

    Peace and love,Jenn + Elliot
