Sunday Summary #65

Community + Your Questions about Wifi and Connectivity

Hi ,

Welcome to Scho & Jo’s 65th Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was finished while cruising aboard PIVOT from Wrightsville Beach to Mile Hammock Bay, North Carolina.Make sure to read to the end where we ask you a question for next week’s blog post!

    Last Week.

Last week we pulled up our anchor and left Beaufort, SC. We enjoyed our short stay in Beaufort but looked forward to the beautiful cruising through the South Carolina salt marshes that awaited us. We arrived at a marina in Charleston and were invited to play pickleball with two of our Patreons - Fletcher and Jetti. It was so fun to take in some of the more community-like aspects of a city instead of the touristy things. We love touring new spots and visiting new places, but this was exactly what we needed. As soon as Fletcher said Pickleball, Elliot’s eye’s lit up with excitement. We had an excellent time getting to know Fletcher and Jetti more, hearing about their daughters, getting a tour of their boat, and their forays into boating.

Two days later we were leaving Charleston and heading to Georgetown, SC for one night before heading to Osprey Marina for some much-needed boat work. We completed, or at least started, many projects that have been on our list for a while.

We left Osprey Marina just south of Myrtle Beach and headed north towards Southport. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to explore as we arrived just before sunset. The following day was our perfect opportunity to cross the dreaded Cape Fear with little wind and the tide in our favor (at 6 am). It was an awesome cruise up Cape Fear, such a contrast between our experience last year when we didn’t plan the tide.

The early morning start meant that we were anchors down in Carolina Beach by 8:45 am!? Who are we?! It wasn’t even 9 am and we were anchors down? That was the earliest that we ever dropped our anchor and we followed it up with some remaining boat projects, which meant a walk to the hardware store. Once we returned to PIVOT, we took the rest of the afternoon off to watch movies and chill. It was just what we needed after making so many miles in the past few months.

The following day we enjoyed another short cruise up to Wrightsville Beach so we would have a shorter dinghy ride to shore as we waited out some nasty weather. We had gusts of 30+ knots and a lot of rain, the perfect for workdays aboard PIVOT. Last night we enjoyed dinner with some followers and future loopers in Wrightsville Beach, NC. It was a lovely evening getting to know John and Elaine who are Harbor Hosts and own the restaurant, South Beach Grill, and Todd and Alana. We learned of their exciting prior boat adventures and their upcoming plans for the Great Loop and the Down East Loop, all while sharing many laughs in between. It was an awesome night; something very special we’ll remember Wrightsville Beach by.

    This Week.

We are currently en route northbound from Wrightsville Beach to Mile Hammock Bay where we will drop our anchor for the night before heading out early the next morning to Beaufort, North Carolina - one of our absolute favorite anchorages on the ICW! We just settled our very broad plan for the next two weeks as we make our way up to Norfolk, VA for the AGLCA Spring Rendezvous. In the next few days, we’ll be visiting Oriental, Ocracoke, and Hatteras *weather depending.* We’re excited to begin venturing off to places we haven’t stopped before as all of the places on our travels have primarily been repeats.

     Blogs.

This week we’ll be writing about wifi, hot spots, and working remotely while traveling on a boat full time. We list the devices we use on our website. What questions do you have about anything on this topic? Please send us your questions so we can answer them in next week’s blog!

     Great Loop Recommendations.

We are looking for recommendations for destinations and spots along our Great Loop to go see, visit, and enjoy. It's been a real challenge for us to keep track and stay organized with the many wonderful recommendations we've received thus far. So we've created a Google Form to help us stay organized. Thank you to everyone sending us recommendations so far! We really appreciate it.

     Gratitudes.

In the past few weeks, we have had the pleasure of meeting so many people who watch our videos. Bob and Wendy in Darien, Ga. Adrian and Karen in Savannah, GA. Art, Sharon, Michelle, and Mike in Beaufort, SC. Fletcher and Jetti in Charleston, SC. 3 different couples waved and cheered us on from their boats along the ICW from Myrtle Beach, SC to Southport, NC. John, Elaine, Todd, and Ilana in Wrightsville Beach, NC. Not including the people we've run into on the street or in Publix getting groceries. It's been such an incredible and humbling experience to meet with so many wonderful, kind, and friendly people along this journey north. Listening to boat stories, things going awry, and the journey to where they are today has been so fulfilling. We have a very special community and we're so grateful for each and every one of you who watches our videos, reads our weekly emails, reaches out with recommendations, and sends us emails. Thank you for being such an amazing group of people that bring such a big smile to our day!

    Peace and love,Jenn + Elliot
