Sunday Summary #49 - First Two Weeks Heading South and a Q&A

Sunday Summary #49

Our First Two Weeks and a Q&A!

Hello ,

Welcome to Scho & Jo’s 49th Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was written aboard PIVOT who is located in the anchorage adjacent to Belhaven, North Carolina.Be sure to read to the end, where we'll be asking for some questions for an upcoming Q&A video!

    Last Week.

We left Crisfield, Maryland and began cruising south to our first stop of Onancock, Virginia. It was suggested to us by one of our viewers and was well worth the stop. Onancock was the picturesque small Chesapeake town on the water that Jenn had been imagining since we decided to start the Great Loop. We hope to visit more of these towns when we return to the Chesapeake Bay next spring. Our first day back on the water and at anchor was amazing, just as we had hoped (and planned) for. The following day we crossed the Chesapeake Bay for an anchorage just for a night before we continued south to Norfolk and Portsmouth where two of our followers, Kim and Dave, introduced themselves to us at the free public dock. Our first few days back on the boat didn't completely go without excitement as Elliot ran aground right outside of the Deep Creek lock.

We enjoyed the Holiday Friendsgiving in the Dismal Swamp Canal with our boat buddies from SV Acadia, Gwen, Andy, and their dog, Aiden. Jenn and Gwen cooked up a feast in our galleys (boat term for kitchens). We're super excited for that video to come out in the next few weeks. The following days we continued cruising south on the Pasquotank River, Albemarle Sound, and Alligator River where we stayed at free docks and anchorages along the way.

We've been in Belhaven, NC for the past few days catching up on some routine engine maintenance and dare I say, enjoying some time on anchor. That's kind of a weird statement for us, given how much we didn't trust our previous anchor, and how much we're loving our new Mantus anchor. We're slowly gaining anchor faith with our new Mantus anchor, aptly named "A Good Night Sleep." So far Elliot has scrubbed the bottom of the boat (at least a foot from the waterline), cleaned the sea strainer, checked the engine coolant, changed the impeller, and changed the fuel filter. PIVOT is running smooth and we're excited to make some progress going south next week!

    This Week.

We'll be continuing our journey south making stops at pretty much the same places we stopped at going north including Oriental and Beaufort, North Carolina. We'll be stopping at a marina for a few nights to pick up packages and enjoy some hot showers and unlimited power!

     Videos.

For several weeks we kept up with a 3 day a week video release schedule, but due to the lack of strong, reliable wifi on the water, we've found it increasingly difficult to upload our 4K videos to YouTube. We're in the process of testing out some new solutions to this problem, so we appreciate your understanding in the meantime. Incase you missed it, here are all the vlogs we’ve released since our last Sunday Summary:

Replacing our Trawler’s LEAKY DECKS | Our BIGGEST BOAT PROJECT Yet!

     Q&A.

In the upcoming weeks we'll be filming a Q&A video and would love to hear your questions! If you have any questions for us, please respond to this email or email us directly at [email protected].

     Gratitudes.

We've spent the past week with our boat buddies, Gwen and Andy, aboard SV Acadia as we all head south. It has been such a pleasure to cruise with other boaters who also balance cruising while working and having a dog. It's been great to not only take the dogs for walks ashore together, but we've also gotten to know Andy and Gwen better as we've had more time to hang out. The time together has been something we've truly enjoyed!

We hope you were able to enjoy this holiday season eating delicious food alongside some wonderful friends and family.

    Peace and love,Jenn + Elliot
