Sunday Summary #43

Leaky Decks and Wet Beds

Hello ,

Welcome to Scho & Jo’s 43rd Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was written from the public library in Crisfield, Maryland. If you are one of the many new subscribers to our Sunday Summary, Welcome! We are glad to have you along for the ride 🛥🤙

    Last Week.

While Jen visited a college friend for her bachelorette party, Elliot and Ollie had a father-puppy weekend where they surprised Jen by completing one of our many boat projects! Jen was thrilled when she came home to... we'll save the surprise for YouTube 😉

We've made tremendous progress on our leaky decks! But like most things we learn, there is usually a low before we reach a high...

The day before Jen left, Elliot cut into his second section of the deck. The first section went super smoothly, leaving us both really impressed with the process and progress. The second section... not so much. While Jen was at the public library, Elliot happened to cut too deep into our decks cutting the top layer of fiberglass, the middle layer of wood coring, AND the base layer of fiberglass. Exactly what we were trying to avoid. So just like everything else on this boat, he researched how to fix his mistake and has now made it a LOT stronger!

    Elliot has successfully

    completed

(until the finishing and painting steps of the entire process) 1/3 of our deck project. He has just reached the start of our v-berth which was notorious for leaking this brown liquid all over our sheets and pillows. This has been an ongoing problem that we

(episode 138), where our front beds were soaking wet. It was gross but now we're fixing ALL of it! We've noticed one of the previous owners did a few "bandaid" fixes, but after tearing apart the decks completely, we are able to see the spots that the previous owner missed. It's been a physically grueling project, but Elliot has been working incredibly hard to make our boat into an even more enjoyable home on the water, without wet beds.

"I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're doing something." -Neil Gailman, author

    This Week.

Our plans over the next few weeks include decks for Elliot and editing for Jen. We are within about 10 videos of getting all caught up to real time, which we are both thrilled about! This week we'll be celebrating our 13 year dating anniversary and plan to take a day off from working to explore a bit of this area of the country we've been calling home for the past few weeks.Looking a little bit further ahead, we are planning on attending both the Annapolis Powerboat Show from October 7-10 and the Sailboat Show from October 14-18. We don't know exactly what day we'll be going to either show, but have them both scheduled in our calendar. If you are interested in meeting up with us and  planning to attend either boat show, please respond to this email. We'd love to meet you in person!

     Gratitudes.

In this week's gratitude section, I (Jenn) want to express my immense gratitude for Elliot and all of the hard work he's been doing on our boat. I wasn't the most thrilled about the initial idea of getting a boat, knowing that they are a lot of work, a lot of maintenance, and expensive. But I was up for the adventure and the opportunity to learn new skills. Once our boat started having some of the problems we're currently tackling, I really started to dislike boat life and the challenges of having an old, moving home on the water. But Elliot's relentless work ethic to make our boat an enjoyable home on the water where our beds are not wet after a rain has soaked through our decks and has pooled into our bedsheets has really changed the boat life game for me. Our deck project has literally been a labor of love and I'm so grateful to have Elliot to 1) do this journey with and 2) to make this journey more enjoyable!

    Peace and love,Jenn + Elliot
