Sunday Summary #102

Heading Northbound

Hi ,

Welcome to Scho & Jo’s 102nd Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was written aboard PIVOT who is anchored in Bill Baggs State Park, just outside of Miami, Florida.

Just a friendly reminder, our Sunday Summaries are going to be sent bi-monthly instead of weekly for the next few months.

    Last Month.

Last week we said goodbye to Islamorada after spending a wonderful 11 weeks anchored. After finding some much-needed rest, a sense of routine, and balance, we pulled up our anchor and headed north. Since we like to consider ourselves “fair weather cruisers” and the weather was not great for cruising on the Atlantic side as we had in our past 3 times cruising this route, we opted to travel inside, or the Florida Bay side. This allowed us to anchor in some new to us spots (Key Largo and Elliot Key) and revisit some of our favorite spots in this region (Boca Chita and No Name Harbor). Cruising through some of these areas has been so bittersweet, but we’re grateful for the opportunity to do it one last time.

Today we had the opportunity to spend Mother’s Day with my mom, Carol. Carol, and Luke (my stepdad) traveled down for the weekend. We’re happy to share some fun in the sun with them as we explore Bill Baggs State Park and enjoy paddle boarding through the mangroves.

    This Week.

This week we’ll be continuing our journey north with the plan of cruising early in the morning to beat the boater traffic from Miami through Jupiter, Florida - about a 100-nautical-mile stretch that causes a bit of anxiety for me. So we’re taking it one day at a time, just like we did with each day of the loop!

If you're preparing for the many locks, we'd recommend reading our

     From the Eyes of Ollie.

We’re back on an adventure! My parents have been moving our home, so I’ve gotten a lot of new smells and sniffs. During the day, I’m on dolphin watch. I sit at the front of our home, scanning the water. We’ve also gone on a lot of fun hikes together. I’m especially happy because Grandma Carol is visiting and she always gives me lots of treats.

     Gratitudes.

We’ve been thoroughly enjoying traveling north at a slower pace (traveling about 4 hours a day) which allows us to balance work and travel. The new-to-us anchorages have been a lot of fun to explore and the landscape as we’ve cruised through the Florida Bay has been beautiful. We’re grateful for the opportunity to spend time with Jen’s parents!

Wishing all the mothers a Happy Mother’s Day!
