Sunday Summary #100

Reflections

Hi ,

Welcome to Scho & Jo’s 100th Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was written aboard PIVOT who is still anchored in Islamorada, Florida.

    100.

We left our home in Atlanta, GA on September 15, 2019, as a gap year to travel, explore, and learn from the unknown. Those first steps onto the plane with a one-way ticket, with no return date planned back to the United States, was scary and exciting all at the same time. Little did we know, it would be monumental in changing our lives forever, putting us on a path we couldn’t have even imagined at the time. We began filming and editing videos as well as sending email updates primarily for our friends and family back home. A lot has happened in the past three and a half years including turning our hobby into a business (An Urban Journey as we called it in 2019/2020), working to improve our skills in storytelling, filming, editing, writing, and so many more, and taking leaps of faith to try new things including learning how to boat or completing the Great Loop. It’s been a wild ride, but one we wouldn’t change for anything else!

As part of our 100th Sunday Summary, I’ve collected some of my favorite Sunday Summaries over the past three and a half years of full-time travel to recollect some of our really wonderful memories. The emails have changed over the years from very short to what they are today. Feel free to peruse some of the old Sunday Summaries if you’d like.

    Last Week.

Outside of editing, writing, and more editing, last week we enjoyed a visit from Jen’s younger sister, Katie. Katie stayed two nights with us aboard PIVOT and we enjoyed taking her around Islamorada and soaking in some sunshine as we paddle-boarded around the mangroves. It was so nice to have some sister time and be able to catch up. We love traveling, but it does make it challenging to see friends and family so when we are able to spend time together, it makes it that much more special.

    This Week.

We’ll be doing more of the same: work, editing, and more editing. We’ve gotten into a great groove here in Islamorada and are really happy to have the time and place to get some good, focused work done. It’s been oh, so good!

     Videos.

In case you missed it, here are all the vlogs we’ve released since our last Sunday Summary:

PATIENCE as we stage for THE BIG CHUTE (Orillia to the Marine Railway)

The Most UNIQUE "Lock" in NORTH AMERICA (The Big Chute Marine Railway)

     From the Eyes of Ollie.

Sometimes people ask my parents if I like boat life. They relay the question to me and I just make myself comfortable on our dinghy rides to shore. I actually make myself comfortable everywhere on the boat. I’m the comfort princess so I like the spots in the sunshine, on the cushions, the bow with the wind in my fur, and all the beds. Basically, every spot is my bed and I’m skilled at finding all the comfy spots on our boat. So yeah, I like boat life as long as I can find a nice spot.

     Gratitudes.

As I was searching through our past 99 Sunday Summaries and recollecting so many great memories, there were a few key themes that stood out.The first theme was people; whether it was family, friends, or strangers who became friends we met on our travels. The people elevated our memories and left us with lasting memories that we still cherish today. From sharing our adventures with friends and family to people opening their homes, lives, and hearts with us left a lasting impression. The next theme was risk; this email newsletter started by risking our careers and very comfortable, happy, enjoyable lives in Atlanta for the unknown. It was a huge risk that lead us to so many beautiful, challenging, and unforgettable experiences. Risk is scary, but its importance shouldn’t be feared by the unknown. Instead, it should be embraced. The last reoccurring theme was gratitude. The gratitude section of the email didn’t start until later, but in each of these emails, I remember the places where I wrote them and how I felt so grateful to be in a hostel, hotel, airport, boat, or coffee shop with the opportunity to write them. Thank YOU for being here to read them and for being a part of our journey.

Wishing a Happy Easter and Passover to those who celebrate!

    Peace and love,Jenn + Elliot
