128: Installing our Floors

New YouTube video, blog, and installing our floors!

Sunday Summary #128

Installing our Floors

Hi there,

Welcome to Scho & Jo’s 128th Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was written in northeast Florida.

Last Week.

We’re happy to say we finally installed our floors! After our DIY prefab roof rack, air conditioner, fan, and solar array took way longer than we expected (and you can see in today’s YouTube video), we’re happy to have moved on to the interior of our van, starting with the floors.

We installed insulation, subflooring, and our Lonseal precut vinyl flooring over the course of three days and are currently in our final day of waiting for it to cure.

Since our flooring was pre-cut it saved us a ton of time and allowed us to get a completely snug fit! Check it out at Campervan HQ.

Part of installing the Lonseal flooring requires using epoxy to attach it to the wood subflooring. We have prior experience working with epoxy thanks to replacing the decks on our old boat and knew we had to work quickly with the epoxy, especially in the heat of summer. We timed our installation around 5/6 pm so the floors could cure overnight when it was cooler (and recommended by the temperature ranges by the manufacturers). The hour of installing the flooring kept us on our toes! After an hour of rolling out any air bubbles and three days of letting it cure, the floors look so good.

We are so happy with how the floors turned out and can’t wait to start the next phase of our build. We’ll be writing a blog post on why we chose the Lonseal flooring and many of the tips and tricks we learned throughout the installation process.

This Week.

We’ve been waiting for our final two windows to arrive in the mail and hope they arrive in the next day or two. We want to make the final cuts to the outside of our van before continuing the inside build, as we’ve learned the metal shavings from making cuts into the van go absolutely everywhere!

Videos.

We released our latest video, where we finished our DIY pre-fab roof rack by Orion Van Gear! In this video, we share installing our ladder, our 825w of walkable solar panels, and rear scene lights. We are so happy with how it turned out, even though it took way longer than we originally expected.

Blog.

This week, we released a blog post on campervan windows! Although we try to balance a very real experience with helpful information in our YouTube videos, we’ve tried to compile all of our tips and tricks in our blog. Our most recent blog covers Campervan windows, including why we choose specific windows, what we learned about the various types of windows, how to install, uninstall, and reinstall the windows, and so much more.

From the Eyes of Ollie.

I’ve been supervising my parents on all of their work. Each time they make a mistake, it’s because they didn’t listen to me. At the end of the day though, i’m pretty proud of them. They’re making me a great home 🐶🚐💕

We have many “go team” high-fives throughout the day to keep morale high.

Gratitudes

The past few days have given us a bit of “cooler weather”… the temperatures in the high 90°Fs (32°-34°C) have been replaced with temperatures in the low 90°Fs (35°-37°C) and although that may not seem like much, it has been a breath of fresh air! The upper 90°F makes the temperature feel like it is in the 100°Fs (38°-43°C). We’re grateful for the cooler temperatures coming just around the corner!

See you next Sunday!

Peace and love,

Jen + Elliot
