Installing our Orion Roofrack!
Sunday Summary #124
Installing our Roof Rack
Hi there,
Welcome to Scho & Jo’s 124th Sunday Summary. This edition of the Sunday Summary was written in northeast Florida on a Monday 😉
Last Week.
We installed our roof rack from Orion Van Gear and are so happy with how it turned out! We’re grateful to partner with Orion on this part of our van build.
We loved getting the hand-written note from another small business.
Orion made super easy to follow instructions that made assembling this DIY pre-fabricated roof rack easy. The hardest part of the entire roof rack was working in the Florida summer heat and humidity with black roof rack components. Even though we’ve been getting up early to tackle van build in the early morning, by 10 am, we’re drenched in sweat. 😅
Elliot installing the perimeter of the roof rack into the existing rails.
So we changed up our approach to this part of the van build by working at sunset and into the night. This small change of timing, helped us to complete the first phase of our roof rack installation although we still have to install our our ladder, rear lights, and walkable solar panels.
Elliot installing the panels to maximize our space for solar panels.
We also installed our Nomadic AC unit and LeMans low-profile fan. Installing an AC and fan will help keep us cool and comfortable on the road.

These first few projects of our van build have changed the look and feel of the van. Each of these additions changes the look and feel of the van. We have to remind ourselves that soon enough, there will be projects that we complete that won’t be as drastic visually but are equally game changers for our life in the van.
This Week.
We’re working on installing windows and flooring from our partner at Campervan HQ! We’ll be installing two windows on the rear doors, windows on the sliding door, and window behind the driver’s side. We’re really excited about these changes and hope that the lessons and skills we learned when installing our Flarespace flares will help us with this project. Installing our windows will be the last major cuts we’ll be making to the exterior of the van, and then it’ll be primarily interior work.

Videos.
Our final video post selling PIVOT was about our trip to the Balkans to visit our friends Nate and Alicia from The Passport Couple. We loved exploring the Balkans and getting a taste of Eastern Europe. The trip reminded us why booking the flight, going on the trip, and embracing what life has to offer when traveling with few plans is important because the memories you make and the laughs you have are always worth it.
The next video was the start of our Van Build Series! We share the van we bought, our proposed layout, detailed design plans, and more. After 15 months and 122 videos, we’re excited to finally be caught up on YouTube and share almost real-time videos.
Blogs and Guides.
As we’re working on our van build, we’re focusing on writing van build content while it’s fresh on our minds. Although we still have plans to write about many of the destinations we visited on the Great Loop and future destinations in our van, here are the articles we wrote about since our last Sunday Summary:
From the Eyes of Ollie.
It’s been pretty hot here, so my mom has been giving me many frozen treats to stay cool since I love to be outside with them while they’re building our future home. My mom gives me frozen broccoli (my favorite) and frozen chicken broth (also my favorite).
Gratitudes
The hot summer heat and humidity in Florida makes us extra grateful for the respite of AC. Each day we take a few breaks in the AC to cool off. We’re so excited to have installed an AC unit in the van and are excited for our work to be rewarded by the cool and comfortable home in the van. We hope wherever you are this summer, that you are also staying cool and comfortable.
See you next Sunday!
Peace and love,
Jen + Elliot
